World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU)

The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), founded in January 1, 1971, is the leading international trade association and development agency for credit unions and financial cooperatives worldwide. WOCCU advocates on behalf of the global credit union system before international organizations and works with national governments to improve legislation and regulation. WOCCU promotes credit unions globally to empower people with access to high quality and affordable financial services.

The World Council supports a network of 89,026 institutions in 117 countries serving 260 million households around the globe. The World Council supports the financial markets in growing economies by promoting financial inclusion and strengthening institutions as well as providing regulatory support. Its technical assistance programs introduce new tools and technologies to strengthen credit unions’ financial performance and increase their outreach.
